What to Note for Packaging Fragile Goods Shipped to Saudi Arabia

22 Oct, 2026

When shipping glassware, ceramics, handicrafts and other fragile items via Saudi dedicated logistics lines, packaging needs to accommodate long-haul transportation, multiple transshipments and rough handling at the last mile in the Middle East. It must also comply with Saudi customs clearance regulations. Proper packaging helps reduce breakage and detention of shipments. Key packaging requirements are listed below.

For inner protection, fully wrap the goods for shock resistance. Each fragile piece must be individually wrapped with multiple layers of thick bubble wrap or EPE foam. Extra padding shall be applied to vulnerable areas such as edges and protrusions. All voids inside the carton should be filled with cushioning materials like foam pellets or air columns to prevent shifting and collision during transit vibration and jolting. High-value fragile products should be wrapped and separated individually to avoid abrasion and damage between items.

For outer packaging, select sturdy and pressure-resistant materials. Five-layer or thicker corrugated cartons are preferred. For large and heavy fragile cargo, solid wood bracing frames or custom wooden crates are recommended. Corner protectors should be fitted on all four corners of the carton to boost impact resistance. Seal cartons crosswise with multiple layers of heavy-duty tape. Simple sealing with ordinary thin tape is not advised, as it raises risks of carton splitting and spillage during shipment.

Marking and compliance details cannot be overlooked. Affix tri-lingual (English, Arabic and Chinese) fragile warning labels on prominent positions of the outer carton, clearly marked with "Fragile" and "Handle With Care". Keep packaging clean and intact with no unauthorized markings or graffiti to avoid hold-ups during Saudi customs inspection. Loose, shedding packing filler materials are prohibited to ensure smooth customs clearance and safe delivery.
