Saudi Cargo, customs bill of lading clearance guide

What requirements does the customs authority have for bills of lading in Saudi cargo transportation?

A Bill of Lading (B/L) is a crucial document that records details such as the quantity, description, and packaging of the goods being shipped. In Saudi, customs authorities have specific requirements for the Bill of Lading.

Below are the key points you need to be aware of:

The B/L must be clear and legible: Saudi Customs requires that all information on the Bill of Lading be clearly readable, including the name, quantity, weight, and packaging method of the goods. Make sure all information is accurate and complete to avoid unnecessary issues.

The B/L must match the goods: Saudi Customs places great emphasis on the consistency between the Bill of Lading and the actual goods. When preparing the B/L, ensure that all details—such as the quantity, specifications, and brand—fully match the actual shipment. Any discrepancies may lead to suspicion and delays at customs.

The B/L must include accurate consignee and consignor information: Be sure to correctly fill in the name, address, and contact details of both the consignee and consignor. These details are critical for smooth customs clearance, so double-check to avoid shipment delays due to incorrect entries.

The B/L must state the correct value of the goods: Saudi Customs closely reviews the declared value of goods. The B/L must accurately reflect the value of the shipment. Declaring a value that is too high or too low may raise red flags with customs authorities and potentially lead to additional duties or fines.

The B/L must include proper packaging and labeling information: The B/L should specify the packaging method and any relevant marks or labels to ensure the safe handling of the cargo during transit. This includes using appropriate packaging materials and indicating the weight and dimensions of the goods.

Additionally, according to Saudi Customs regulations, all Bills of Lading for shipments to Saudi must include the following three items after the consignee's address:

  • Consignee's Importer Code
  • Consignee's Customs Registration Code
  • Consignee's Mobile Phone Number
